9/13/08

missed the prior 2 days (went in to work early), and i'm going to be on vacation til the 23rd.
however, i felt pretty awful today too. i woke up in time for sub5, but chose not to go, and i think it was the right choice as when i finally got out and on my own coast ride, i felt like i was crawling along and everything felt stiff and ugh.

just up to pomerado and back with paul.
my bad luck week continues with a staple in my rear wheel.
replaced the tube, theres a little pinhole in my tire itself, i put a glue patch on the backside of it, but it might need some further inspection later.

first crash =[
was going down soledad into pacific beach. going downhill around a curve, there was some water there, and i couldnt really avoid it, or straighten up in time. low side fall, as the tires slipped out from under me. i think everything is ok, i have a bit of road rash on my arm, and i had to get my rear wheel trued. some scrapes on my brake levers and pedals, but i think everything is fine.

9/7/08 bike the bay SD

bike the bay SD (http://www.bikethebay.net) was a pretty awesome ride. it was an opportunity to ride on the coronado bridge, lots of the people there used the term "once in a lifetime" to describe it so it has to be a big deal right?

it was REALLY nice on the bridge, even with all the morning fog nice views in both directions going up and zooming down into coronado.

the rest of the ride was really enjoyable as well. i think the SDCBC did a really good job putting the ride together, and the nice bike paths in that area did not hurt.

i started in the 3rd wave (~100 riders each wave), after the bridge hooked up with a couple on a tandem and an SDBC rider to blast through coronado. at this point we found a pretty good group of about 6-7 other riders, and kept it going strong all the way back.

i think we finished the ~27 mile course in a little over an hour, but i had my clock running the whole time that i was sitting at the starting line so it shows up as a lot longer.

9/6/08 amtrak century

paul and i drove up to irvine and spent the night by UCI.
rode from UCI to the transit center, and joined up with sam, uri, dylan, steve, chuck and gisela for the amtrak century(http://www.ocw.org/Amtrak/Default.asp). definitely had a great ride. the weather going through pendelton was really overcast and cool perfect for cycling. it started to turn ultra nice and was a perfect socal day by the time we hit torrey pines.

i started feeling cramp twinges in delmar, but busted the margarita shotbloks and never full on cramped. if anything i probably had too much food during the ride, 3 packs of shot bloks(1 marg w/ salt), 2 powerbar gels, a clif bar, pack of sport beans, 2 bananas, 3-4 oranges, a couple cookies.

9/5/08

went with avery for the first time since he got back from ny. went up the coast to swami's. avery got a flat, so i actually got to use my CO2 inflator which is always fun.

had to miss a couple days prior, as i had a doctor's appointment, and the bike was in the shop getting tuned up. the tuneup, while useful for helping the shifting (stretched cables), did not fix the small creak/rattle/tap noise i get, in fact may have made it worse. not sure... it seems to go away when i turn it up a notch or two though. maybe i'm just not noticing as much when im working hard.
